Why is Galactus a Girl in Marvel Rivals?

Galacta, a female counterpart to Galactus, appears in the upcoming mobile game Marvel Rivals. But why? This article delves into Galacta’s origins, powers, and her role in the game.

Marvel Rivals, a new 6v6 hero shooter from NetEase Games and Marvel Games, features iconic characters like Magneto, Iron Man, and Scarlet Witch battling to stop Doctor Doom. Overseeing these battles is a mysterious woman wielding cosmic power: Galacta.

Galacta: Daughter of Galactus

Unlike many Marvel characters, Galacta isn’t from the main comic book continuity (Earth-616). She originated in the non-canonical “Galacta: Daughter of Galactus” comics (Earth-610102) and the anthology “The Marvel Assistant-Sized Spectactular,” created by Adam Warren and Hector Sevilla Lujan.

In the comics, Galacta lives on Earth as a blogger and foodie, blending in with humans despite her immense hunger. She can quell her appetite without consuming planets, unlike her father, Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds. Although she and Galactus have a strained relationship, she occasionally acts as a hero, discreetly devouring intergalactic threats.

Galacta’s Powers and Abilities

Galacta inherited many of Galactus’s cosmic powers, albeit on a smaller scale due to her younger age.

She possesses:

  • Cosmic Awareness: A deep understanding of the universe, making her incredibly intelligent.
  • Matter Consumption: The ability to convert matter into energy to satisfy her hunger, although she controls it better than Galactus.
  • Near Godhood Abilities: Flight, teleportation, weather manipulation, telepathy, and more.
  • Ingenuity: Unlike her father, Galacta is a creative problem-solver.

Importantly, Galacta isn’t bound by the same cosmic duties as Galactus, who acts as a balance between Eternity and Death. This freedom allows her to pursue her own interests.

Galacta’s Role in Marvel Rivals

In Marvel Rivals, Galacta appears as a narrator and passive observer, similar to Athena in Overwatch 2. She may even orchestrate the player’s matches. While her exact role remains unclear until the game’s release, her presence adds an intriguing layer to the narrative.

Galacta’s inclusion in Marvel Rivals could signal her reintroduction to a wider audience and a potential return to the main Marvel comics universe.
