My Art. Do Not Use Without Permission

This piece actually started out with a bit more angst in mind, believe it or not. I was streaming the drawing process, and the feedback I got was overwhelmingly about how adorable he looked! Try as I might, I just couldn’t make him look any sadder. So, embracing the positive vibes, “puppy Connor” was born! Those big, pleading eyes just scream, “why won’t you adopt me?” don’t they? Hands are always a challenge for me, so a big shout out to my fiancé for lending theirs as a reference for this artwork.
Let’s dive into the details for anyone curious about the creation process:
Information
- Time Taken: Three days (spread out, of course!)
- Software: Medibang Paint Pro – my go-to for digital art.
- Tools: Huion display graphics tablet with pen, powered by my trusty HP STREAM laptop. Gotta love that tech!
Skeleton
For those interested in a little peek behind the scenes, here are a few progress shots. You can see the initial sketch, where I was figuring out the pose and proportions. It’s always a bit messy at this stage, but it’s all part of the process! Getting the anatomy right, even for a stylized piece, is key.
Big head boi
Then comes the “big head boi” phase! Exaggerated proportions can really enhance the cuteness factor, especially when you’re aiming for that “puppy” look. It’s all about playing with stylization to capture the desired emotion and appeal. And those eyes… they are getting bigger and more pleading by the minute!
Spider hands
Ah, the dreaded “spider hands” stage! We’ve all been there. Hands are notoriously tricky, and sometimes they look a bit… well, spidery before you refine them. This is where reference images and patience come in handy. It’s all about breaking down the shapes and gradually building up the details.
Nebula making it hard to work
And finally, we have the near-finished piece, with the nebula background starting to take shape. Even in the midst of creating, distractions happen! But pushing through those moments and seeing the artwork come together is incredibly rewarding. Hopefully, this “puppy Connor” piece brings a smile to your face and answers the question: “Why won’t you adopt me?” with a resounding, “Of course, we will!”
